FI: Dokumenttielokuva Kultahippuja ja lumihiutaleita on poeettinen kertomus ajasta, muistoista ja elämästä nopeasti muuttuvan maailman reunoilla. Kuulemme paikallisten ihmisten haastatteluja Lemmenjoella pienen, tunturissa sijaitsevan kirjaston ympäristössä, 30 kilometrin päässä lähimmästä tiestä. Paikalliset kullankaivajat käyttävät kirjastoa, jossa säilytetään muistoja ja tarinoita ihmisistä kirjojen muodossa. Laajakuvat näyttävät elokuvassa, miten pieni ihminen on pohjoissuomalaisen luonnon rinnalla. Maisema on vanhempi kuin yksittäinen ihminen tai kertomamme tarinat. Mitä muistamme ja mitä unohdamme?

EN: The documentary film "Gold Nuggets and Snowflakes" is a poetic tale about time, memories, and life on the edges of a rapidly changing world. We hear interviews with local people in the surroundings of a small library situated in Lemmenjoki, in the mountains, 30 kilometers away from the nearest road. Local gold miners use the library to store memories and stories of people in the form of books. The widescreen shots in the film show how small humans are compared to the Northern Finnish nature. The landscape is older than any individual human or the stories we tell. What do we remember and what do we forget?
